Winter Golf Rules 2025/26

WINTER GOLF GUIDELINES INCLUDING GENERAL PLAY ROUNDS 2025/26

On 1st November the blue and green winter courses will be in operation and there are various guidelines which require to be adhered to until the end of March.

  1. The use of mats is compulsory on all fairways. The mat should be placed as near as possible to where the ball lies but not nearer the hole on fairways and tees.
  2. If a player does not want to use a mat on the fairway, he may lift the ball and move it into the semi rough, nearest to the position where the ball landed on the fairway, and at least 5 paces from the edge of the fairway and drop the ball. Thereafter,  ball is played as it lies.
  3. Mats must be used in the semi rough if the ball is within 5 paces from the edge of the fairway. If a ball lands in the semi rough at a point exceeding 5 paces, it must be played as it lies, unless relief is available under normal golf rules
  4. All bunkers are GUR no play areas and relief must be taken by dropping the ball within one club length from the nearest point of complete relief,  but not nearer the hole
  5. Scores will be acceptable for handicap purposes in a General Play round or club competition provided there is no more than 1 winter green for 9 holes, and 2 winter greens for 18 holes, in play.
  6. Buggies are not allowed during the winter subject to exceptions being allowed to members with a medical certificate. This exception will be subject to withdrawal if the greenkeeper decides that course conditions are unsuitable on any specific day
